Team AI policy

Owners and admins on a Team or Business plan can turn AI off for everyone in their org, or feature by feature — and members cannot switch it back on.

Some organizations cannot have database work sent to an AI model at all, or only want certain AI features in use. AI policy lets an owner or admin decide that once, for every member, instead of asking each person to change their own settings.

Who can set it

Team owners and admins on a Team or Business plan. Other members do not see the section.

Turning AI off for your org

  1. Open Team & sharing and scroll to AI policy.
  2. Check Turn off AI for everyone in this org to stop every AI feature for all members.
  3. Or leave that unchecked and, under “Or turn off individual features”, check only the ones you want off — Turn off AI chat, Turn off Generate SQL, and so on. Hover a feature to see what it covers.

The features are the same eight a person can switch off for themselves; see “Turning AI features off” for what each one does.

How it reaches members

  • A member’s AddisDB desktop app picks up the change within a minute, without restarting.
  • The terminal app and the VS Code extension check for a newer policy before using AI whenever what they have is more than a few minutes old.
  • If a member is offline, the last policy their app received stays in force.
  • The policy applies to members signed in to AddisDB with the account that belongs to your org.

What members see

AI buttons stay in place, dimmed, and say who turned them off — “Acme has turned off AI for its members.” In Settings → AI, a feature your org has turned off is marked “Locked by” followed by your team’s name. Nothing on a member’s machine switches it back on: not their own Settings, not a project’s settings, not the terminal app or the extension.

If a member belongs to more than one org, a feature is off whenever any of those orgs has turned it off.

Off only, never forced on

AI policy can only take AI away. An admin cannot turn a feature on for someone who has switched it off themselves, and cannot make AI run on a member’s machine.

Audit trail

Every change to AI policy is recorded in the team’s audit log, with who made it and when.
